Are You Covered?

Veiled Humility

1 Corinthians 11:1-16

1 Be imitators of me, just as I also am of Christ. 2 Now I praise you because you remember me in everything and hold firmly to the traditions, just as I delivered them to you. 3 But I want you to understand that Christ is the head of every man, and the man is the head of a woman, and God is the head of Christ. 4 Every man who has something on his head while praying or prophesying disgraces his head. 5 But every woman who has her head uncovered while praying or prophesying disgraces her head, for she is one and the same as the woman whose head is shaved. 6 For if a woman does not cover her head, let her also have her hair cut off; but if it is disgraceful for a woman to have her hair cut off or her head shaved, let her cover her head. 7 For a man ought not to have his head covered, since he is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of man. 8 For man does not originate from woman, but woman from man; 9 for indeed man was not created for the woman’s sake, but woman for the man’s sake. 10 Therefore the woman ought to have a symbol of authority on her head, because of the angels. 11 However, in the Lord, neither is woman independent of man, nor is man independent of woman. 12 For as the woman originates from the man, so also the man has his birth through the woman; and all things originate from God. 13 Judge for yourselves: is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered? 14 Does not even nature itself teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a dishonor to him, 15 but if a woman has long hair, it is a glory to her? For her hair is given to her for a covering. 16 But if one is inclined to be contentious, we have no other practice, nor have the churches of God.

What worldly sin has the “church” of this age not joined into?

Why did our parent’s “Christianity” fail to slow our culture’s decline?

True Christianity did not fail. We as a generation of people have just failed to follow God. The reason, that every day our perpetually losing church leaders are in retreat against the evil advance of our godless culture, is because they’re not actually fighting for God. The power of God is not on their side. They preach for money and to build their earthly kingdoms. They will not preach what is not acceptable to their congregation from God’s word.

God says: Mark 8:38 Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.

God asks women to pray with their heads covered. Do they? Why not? Why are church leaders not demanding that over half of their congregation obey God in that way? Because they worship Feminism above God. Feminism is a supremacist ideology. Our loving God set up Patriarchy for all humanity, especially for His own people who claim to follow Him. Abandoning God’s design for the family out of rebellion towards God and adopting the female supremacist ideology of Feminism, has destroyed families and led to a divorce epidemic and loosed all kinds of evil and degraded society. The Church traditionally was the force for God in this world, but the churches we now have are fully corrupted and in open rebellion to God. Husbands are told from pulpits to become servants to their wives by hirelings who instead of ministering God’s word, administer still more female supremacism. Church discipline as prescribed in the Bible, is now just a thing of the past. Isaiah 53:6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. Every man or woman does as they please. With the least accountability placed on women. Women, I ask you today to show humility. Fear God and boldly show your submission to God instead of our self-destructing Feminist culture. Show that you want to obey God by getting and wearing a head covering when you pray and worship God. The head covering is a symbol of being covered and under man’s authority whether it is your earthly father’s or husband’s authority, or whether you have no man but Christ Jesus, you honor God and them by having a symbol of submission placed over your head.

What should this be? How should it look? When should you be wearing it? The Bible does not specify what should be used to cover the head, but it is clear that it is a symbol that is in addition to your own hair which should not be shaved short, for that is a shame. But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her. Whether you and the man who is your authority choose a veil, a kerchief, a bonnet, or a hat, or some other type of head covering for yourself, the important part is that you wear it for the right reason. And you should select one in keeping with that reason. Wearing the veil is an act of obedience to God’s command, and an outward symbol of subjection to your earthly head, a man, whether a father, a husband, or Jesus. The symbol itself does not have any power of its own to change you, but it is a symbol of the change that has already taken place within, that causes you to unashamedly choose holy obedience to God.

  1. True Christianity did not fail. We as a generation of people have just failed to follow God.

    THIS, and only this.

Following God means forsaking the world, as Jesus made clear on multiple occasions. The problem is, most who call themselves Christians have clearly NOT forsaken the world, yet have convinced themselves that they can fake it. They may be fooling themselves, but they’re not fooling the world, nor of course are they for a millisecond fooling God. They probably aren’t the least bit concerned about this, as, being fundamentally unsaved and thus living for the here and now, don’t believe that eternal consequences for their apostasy are forthcoming.

God have mercy on us all. The True Body of Christ on Earth is such an elusive thing…

  2. Bee,
After coming home from work, I played the sermon, and laid down on my bed to listen. Unfortunately I came away unimpressed. It would appear he discovered and came to accept the Bible’s teaching about head covering due to his wife’s spiritual leading, Which was not a good sign. I may have drifted off during the middle a bit, but I don’t recall him getting very excited or emphatic about the truth he was sharing. Although he brought up an interesting point, that many liberals choose to no longer see the Bible as inerrant, directly because the Bible conflicts with their Feminism in many places. Instead, they let their supposedly inerrant Feminism render God into a liar. However the guy is still a preacher of “blue pill”. His message veered hard “blue pill” off the narrow road and straight into Goddessville at the end. He winds up by quoting a woman, Elizabeth Elliot, that the image of God is manifested in both male and female and that their complementary differences are essential to the image of God. Then he concludes by saying, “And basically the head covering represents this outward witness, this outward testimony to the world about the fullness of the attributes of God.” What Feminist claptrap! Suddenly he twists why women are to wear the head covering, unlike men, because they aren’t in the image of God like men, but instead it is because the head covering is part of their goddess costume. It is no longer a symbol of subjection, women, it is a symbol that you’re the other half of the duplicitous image of God the Father and mother. He couldn’t help but conclude by dumping a load of blue pill pandering to the goddesses in his congregation, that totally was contradictory to the inerrant 1 Corinthians 11 passage he first read at the beginning. He pretty much tried to twist God’s symbol of subjection into a crown of God’s glory matching the man’s God given glory. Which leads me to believe he refuses to accept the passage fully, but instead is mostly just led along by his wife’s spiritual leading, that she wants to wear a head covering.

  3. Sharkly,

Thanks for your critique. I missed most of those blue parts.

I liked the passage in Esther 6 from the Septuagint that uses the same greek word for covering as used in I Cor. 11. I also liked the section from Plutarch about the cloth over the face. I had never heard those before.

  4. Bee,
I didn’t remember those things you just mentioned, so I must have fallen asleep for part of it. I tried going back to find them, but I found him saying, at 45 minutes, that man is analogous to God and woman is analogous to Christ. Again that is wrong. Ephesians 5 tells us that the man images Christ, while the woman images the church. Then he implies that the woman is veiling her glory, as though God doesn’t want to be outshone or something. LOL at 47 minutes he said head covering is so people can teach the angels about who God is. LOL Like God’s attendants don’t know him better than those of us fallible humans who have never even seen God. Why can’t the head covering be about what The Apostle says it is about, a symbol of subjection? Oh right! That might upset the Feminist goddesses. I think the head covering is part of protocol for women approaching God, and also symbolic, of their being under the man. To try to make head covering seem appealing to women as an honor or as a fashionable accessory or some other false reason dishonors God, as if obedience to Him is not reason enough.

  5. This is directly from the margin of my NIV Bible:
“4Every man who prays or prophesies with long hair dishonoured his head. 5And every woman who prays or prophesies with no covering of hair on her head dishonours her head – she is like one of the shorn women. 6If a woman has no covering, let her be for now with short hair, but since it is a disgrace for a woman to have her hair shorn or shaved, she should grow it again. 7A man ought not to have long hair.

    Pretty self-explanatory, huh?

  6. The King neither struck nor amended the requirements detailed in this post. These requirements remain in force until the Kingdom manifests and He sits. Obedience is expected.

Head-covering by the female shows obedience to the LORD, and deference and submission to men. Not to any particular man, to ALL men, because men walk this world carrying the image of Father. Covering the head is a recognition by the female of this relationship between God and man.

The part about ‘people teaching the angels who God is’ truly shows how far Lucifer has led The Almighty People down the road of pride and foolishness. Call it a tie between Ridiculous and Stoopid.

Woe to the ‘pastors’ who roll over to the fem-imperative and conduct services knowingly outside the boundaries set by God. They will say ‘Your name was on our front door’ and they will say ‘We praised you and read your Scriptures’ and He will scoff and turn away.

Sins He will forgive, but He will not excuse open rebellion. He will not allow any element whatsoever of feminism to pollute the Kingdom Millennium, so those persons retaining the assumptions and practices of feminism are in trouble, the worst kind of trouble.

You do these persons a great service by pointing out what your fellows are too afraid — too comfortable, conditioned, and sold-out — to accept, much less enforce. I hope some of them open their ears and repent of their worldly compliance and cowardice. They would be FAR better off closing their ‘churches’ and doing anything else, than pretending to lead the King’s sheep. Better off they lived in a cardboard box on the street than to practice feminism in a church dedicated to the King’s name.

  7. I gave the wrong video sermon earlier. The part about Esther 6:12 and Plutarch discussing Scipio covering his face begin around the 23 minute mark.

  8. Studying the 1 Cor. passage really helped clarify for me the biblical reasons for my position as a woman and as a wife. Head covering is a practice I’d like to follow more fully, but it is hard when the husband isn’t as enthusiastically in favor of it.

My husband has never forbade me to wear it in church settings, but he also has told me he just doesn’t believe it is “for today.” I would try to share videos that explained the theology behind it, and he just would kind of laugh. It is really awkward to wear a head covering which is supposed to show my submission, when I am not actually submitting when wearing it. His stance is more “you don’t need to wear it to show your submission to me,” and “whatever makes you happy/fulfilled etc.” Which feels contradictory to the whole idea behind wearing a head covering. Even in some of the women’s headcovering forums I’d browse, there seemed to be a lot of women covering in spite of their husbands’ beliefs, which seems contradictory. For many women, it also seemed a way to “be unique and different” from the mainstream, which isn’t the point either.

I do wear it in my private prayer time though, I’ve just stopped wearing it to church. I wish I had more guidance and encouragement in this area, but for now, this practice seems to work while also being more in harmony with my husband.

  9. Mrs. D.,
Since your husband has not forbade you to wear a head covering in church, unless he tells you not to, I’d recommend wearing a head covering then. And mentally focus on doing it for the intended purpose of showing your subjection, before God and His holy angels, not for other reasons. Also try to live out the subjection that you are symbolizing.

  10. Sharkly, thank you for your reply! I hope I didn’t cause any inconvenience on your blog ???? I’ll make sure to type my name exactly the same. Thanks for your input on the headcovering. I’ll admit sometimes I wonder if I was just using my husband’s stance as an excuse to not have to think about headcovering anymore. He doesn’t have any objection to me practicing it in church. I know some women also cover their heads when they are teaching their children the Bible. I have thought of doing that as well. Thanks and have a good day!

  11. I attend a fairly conservative Baptist congregation as my call to corporate worship. ‘Conservative’ in that the pastorate makes an earnest effort to preach the Bible as it is written.

Sitting in church tonight, and I noticed an alarming trend fulfilled: the over-60 women all had hair cut short such that their napes were exposed. ~2 months ago, one of the 60+ wives cut her hair and I see the end result.

So now they look very unappealing (women age like milk), taking the one thing that gave them grace in their physical appearance in their advanced years, but now also they have achieved final form: disrepecting God AND husband.

It then crossed my mind: if a woman’s hair is given to her as a covering, and she is to be covered, are the women who endorse this [incorrect] interpretation of Scripture thus knowingly and willingly in disobedience by cutting off their hair?

We know that a woman’s beauty, as illustrated by her hair- is a gift for her husband to enjoy. Her head is to be covered- as obedience for her Creator to enjoy. Regardless of if someone tries to twist their way out of this, they will always be caught guilty of one or the other.

  12. ikr,
Ignorance of the truth is a weak defense for a Christian who has had every opportunity to read and study God’s word. If some folks wrongly consider hair which was given as a “covering”(peribolaion) to negate God’s previously given commands that women veil or “cover up”(katakaluptó) their heads, clearly in addition to their hair, the sin of rebellion and vanity before God’s host has already occurred.
If after claiming that the Bible is only referring to long hair, they then cut their hair short, they are now only cutting short their glory and parading their willful ignorance and hypocrisy before a great cloud of witnesses. The error of refusing to humbly cover their heads while seeking the presence of God has already been repeatedly written on their account, and they are likely lacking in further interaction with God. The Lord is revealing small things to me. I am increasing in the knowledge of God. Even last night as I was trying to get to sleep, I was given another clue.
Luke 16:10(voice) 10 If you’re faithful in small-scale matters, you’ll be faithful with far bigger responsibilities. If you’re crooked in small responsibilities, you’ll be no different in bigger things. 11 If you can’t even handle a small thing like money, who’s going to entrust you with spiritual riches that really matter? (Living)12 Now if you have not been trustworthy with what belongs to another, who will give you anything of your own?

If they are already boldly unfaithful to the truth that God has given to all humankind, why would God give them truth that is not given to all to know? Why would God give them a truth to teach that is not plainly clear in the scripture, if they already refuse to teach many things that are clear?
